My Story
Since leaving my employment as a manufacturing florist of over 45 years, I am wanting to create a business in textile artwork using the sewing machine to produce free motion embroidery pictures.
Currently I have been basing my work on floral subjects, designs formed by shapes, patterns and colours of flowers and foliage. Cutting fabric scraps, bonding to a base fabric and stitching onto these using the technique called free motion embroidery. I have attempted to be stylistic in my approach, but find the pull back to produce more botanical representations.
I also work on textile embroidered art which is a form of painting or sketching an image of animals or landscapes on to a fabric. Small colourful fabric pieces are then fixed to the backing fabric following the lines of the image. When done, the action is to use the sewing machine to produce a finished article predominantly using the sewing machine with the free motion darning foot to create a realistic finish when colour and pattern is added on top.
As I go through this journey of creating my artwork, the ideas are developing and I learn new skills every day.
